Security is as much about protecting people and property as it is about serving and assisting. This is why we have high expectations of our teams to deliver excellent customer service. Interestingly, however, customer service is still the less familiar and perhaps less popular concept when it comes to security, and hence something that many entry-level guards have to be trained and coached on.
At JTFSecurity we base our customer service ethic for our guards on three R’s: Reliability, Responsiveness, and Relationship Building.
A security guard’s responsibility is to handle individuals with different personality types in the best possible way. When dealing with irate individuals, a security guard must always:
The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred an enormous demand for security guards, whose job descriptions have been expanded to include temperature checks, grocery store crowd control and — in at least one case — removing bodies from a morgue.
Security guards need to respond to changes in their environment, which includes actions such as traffic movement, ensuring the safety of persons between and within locations, monitoring and managing the access and departure of persons and vehicles and observing and monitoring people. Security guards need to be aware of the correct way to deal with these situations. They should have the knowledge and skills required to assess the security of physical environments, to apply basic aspects of security in their roles and to assess the impact of drug use in the context of safety for oneself and others.
Read your licence carefully to ensure it is correct. It should identify you and:
The types of security services you are authorized to perform, as well as
Any conditions attached to your licence
If you have any concerns about your licence, contact Security Programs.
What to Know
You may only use restraints or work with a dog with the Registrar’s authorization, which is listed on the back of your licence along with any conditions.
You must carry your licence at all times when doing security work.
Security guards are expected to respond to emergency situations and to minimize the impact caused where the security guard is working. They may be required to perform a variety of duties during emergency procedures and should understand the importance of scene management.
EPST1is our mid-level protective training course designed for both domestic and foreign duties. Our methodology focuses heavily on soft operation manoeuvres for non-hostile environments, enabling participants to make important life-saving decisions under duress. From VIP protection, to corporate clients, politicians and foreign dignitaries, the art of protection requires more than just big boys with imposing looks, cool cars and wanna-be action super heroes.
